i cut it maybe 12 yrs ago

it has had a mix of hot dry shed eaves and used as a garden prop, it sounds well cured

it is about the right size ( 4 foot by 2 inch, a bit bent, with a fork/ball on the top end ) for a stout stick
needs the bark off and some adjusting to make it a good un with a nice balance and swing

how do i make it naked without far too much whittling or fuss, power tools and fire/steam are both available
spoke shave etc is off my menu until the last stages, and maybe not even then

any advice appreciated

Well I would go at it with a draw knife, but if it has thorns, use a small axe to take off the thorns and worst of the bad bits. I don't really use power tools, and can't think of a way of dealing with a stick with any. It will need clamping while working, and I use a shave horse for that, but not a thing that is lying round everyone's property, and not suitable for you either I wouldn't think, so probably a vice working from each end.

thanks, the nowill SF jungle machete might do for a draw knife/small axe

a shave horse would really hurt, the workbench/clamps were ok for the oak one i did ages ago (the one i use if i go out)

if the blade does not work, i will try a burring wheel for the bark, if that fails the Rothenberger gas torch will talk to the bark
