climbing is fine, chainsaw and tree is fine(even awkward or at the larger end of medium are ok)

i have a 15" diameter scots pine log that has retained its bark for maybe 5 years while drying from river forage

birch has never fallen off in my log basket

acers split and peel off

choose the right sort of tree

linseed oil by capillary action from the ends and faces might work on a dry but still barked bit, it would lose the natural look if you go for the faces

find a bit ...

i do not need much, well seasoned is good, maybe 50wide 100long 50deep (along the grain) in mm

50 mm or so thick along the grain is the most important criteria, strait ish grain comes a close secon ...
