the morel of the tale my first thought is "were they all morels?" second is "did they know to cook them very well and to be sparing in portions?" if the answer is no to either or both the chefs are rather to blame delicious with caution, as are many others

People have different responses to a lot of foods, particularly fungi. Our DIL had to avoid all mushrooms as she has a reaction to even some fully edible ones, but she is not sure exactly which ones, so avoids all. Other people have reaction to Chicken of the Woods, while most can eat with impunity.

As you say Dpack, were they all morels, and were they properly prepared. I have never had them, so don't know about preparation other than knowing you have to evict all creepy crawlies carefully.

The end of the article included language such as raw and partially cooked. Who the hell eats raw morels?

ignorant folk? and those who they serve food to? "bold bob" the village poison tester trying something new combined with "wise mary" watching bob's reaction has given us some fairly good advice there are a few shrooms that are nice and harmless raw, most need cooking, some need process or personal criteria, some are not worth the risks and effort, some are not food i think that covers it
