Ours have never bothered to eat it. I don't know if it would be bad for them to suddenly develop a taste. In my experience, chickens tend to be fairly sensible about what they eat.

one of the dirty four dozen ate an oily rag

iirc that dropped it to the dirty 30 or so, other casualties had preceded that one

imho they're more sensible than many domestic critters, but they do excel at times
