The Cinnabar Chanterelles are purported to be good eats, but not as choice as the yellows. I, however, am not sure as these are the first possible specimens I have ever found.

If I've got my species information correct, they are of the shagbark variety. They had big hulls that basically fell off of the nut.

Why not try boiling a handful and baking another, then trying cracking those and a few oncooked ones? Should give an idea of whether cooking has any effect.
