Ikea's basic "Gorm" shelving has slightly different dimensions to its perdecessor "Sten". We dismantled all the shelving when we moved house, and got some of it muddled up. Which left us with a load of spare bits, which ended up under tarp in the garden, which in turn got weather stained and couldn't be used indoors.

So eventually, I suggested we made them into planters. We put the first 90cm square bed together last weekend, making the base from dismantled pallets and lining with Mypex. Did the second on this afternoon, in a fraction of the time. Have done a modified Three Sisters planting scheme in one, tomatoes and salads in the other.

Going to try to make a cold frame from the corner sections.

Good re use there. well done. Is mypex like a breathable membrane thinger ?

thats given me an idea, we recently retired a pine blanket box type thing that had been in the van- the lid had disintegrated and I couldnt be bothered to rebuild it. It might make a good tomato planter out the back as a mini raised bed. Yay for Downsizer, inspiration when you need it most
