I have seedlings just coming up in the greenhouse - only another three years to wait .

We also have a small asparagus bed, grown from seed a few years back and it should crop well this year. Home grown is much better than any shop stuff and you can even eat it while it's still growing on the plant...

picked a good big bunch of wild asparagus with my middle daughter yesterday, in the woods at the coast. She is, unfortunately one of those mini-foragers who have no sense of danger "I CAN'T leave it there, it's much better than the others we've got, and I can reach it if I throw myself into the bramble bushes!" yes, that's why it's still there and no-one else has picked it!

We bought asparagus seeds and a couple of crowns - ooo back in 2005/2006 - we knew we were moving so planted these in window boxes - so they could travel with us and mature along the way.... Now we have a garden and I ought to plant them out - but well one is about 3ft tall (should reach the Giants Castle soon...) so not sure if I should wait now until they stop growing or to go for it......

We've got an asparagus bed...just. It's just been built and filled with earth...errrm, and that's about it. Any suggestions as to which breed of asparagus crown we should try?

I have aparagus seeds just germinating now but no idea of where to plant them. I'm not sure they'll go in the new garden and have no idea if in the new place I'll be able to find a free allotment (oh well perhaps I can find a small field to rent!)

Had a super meal yesterday of dexter steak, jersey royals, baby carrots, PSB and asparagus, with lots of melted butter. Pity I didn't grow any of it, but it did all come from the farmers market, so it was all local and pretty fresh. Added to a trek up a hill and picnic of local pork products (and a imported bottle of wine

or two

) it was a pretty fine day, foodwise. Might try hollandiase next time too.
