if it was deliberate or just incompetent oversight i couldn't possible say as considering the "form" of gollum as fracker murdoch's creature and the history of the current government in competence or their views on environmental issues it would be a difficult call.

As the whole bill as I understand it undermines UK Parliament and law, it could be either. Basically, it seems to say that what cabinet or PM want they get, regardless of anything else.

overall the original wording gave the ministers more power than henry 8 and chas 1 put together, even john 1 would have found it quite enabling.

that is a different set of issues

the onus to provide proof of "no harm" upon the proposer of a scheme that could affect the environment ie to show an impact study before the event has prevented many unpleasant things.
to remove that and to rely on "polluter pays" if that is enforced and have a "oh well too late" response to other aspects would create the same sort of environmental protections seen in the 18th c or more recently in places such as turkey or nigeria.

as such a clause was committed demonstrates the nature of these people and proves that whatever they say regarding environmental issues they cannot be trusted to maintain the current levels of protection for the environment as a whole or in detail.

I think they are trying in many ways to take us back to the 18th or 19th centuries. They are certainly trying to get rid of the NHS, fully control schooling and make it difficult for less well off to get university education. After that, who knows; no education for the poor? Still of course decrying the lack of skills of the average British person. Sorry, but they really are trying to take apart the country I love and used to be proud of in many ways.

There is a petition in the pipleline asking for a public vote of no confidence.
I think it has them worried because the Petitions Committee are very reluctant to publish it...

I am not sure that would do any good anyway HL. As far as I can gather, the only legally binding vote of no confidence has to come from Parliament, although they might use the public one as a lever.

If it were so simple then why have they shown such reluctance to publishing the petition?
They could just hold the vote and laugh it off like they did with the EU referendum... though I doubt that the turnout would be so good.

But we seek a vote of no confidence in the entire administration, not just the government and the relevant point is not necessarily the vote, but the discussion in parliament that they need to have.

Quote:
Hold a Public Vote (national referendum) of No Confidence in the Administration.

The EU Referendum has divided the nation like nothing else in living memory, yet both sides of that divide seem united in their lack of confidence in the Government. We face a democratic crisis brought about by the hubris of Parliament & their failure to give the relevant issues due consideration.

The 2015 election has been widely cited as the least representative election in the history of democracy and the last election quite simply proves the electoral system is not fit for purpose returning no overall majority, yet delivering a PM who claims that nothing has changed. We have a systemic failure in the way our representatives are selected, and no realistic prospect of reform in the foreseeable future. The people have lost confidence. Parliament needs to propose how she will win it back.

We're expecting them to dither about making excuses again, so if anyone has helpful comments on how things might be better put, then i can pass them on.

It could get some results if it was debated; at least with any luck a bit of publicity, although I wouldn't count on that. It will probably be debated at a time when nobody is in the House, and the press won't be bothered. Suppose it is worth a try though. Any chance of giving a link to the whole petition including the wording of it, because all I got with that link was the name of the sponsor and the sign it form, and I like to read what I am signing before doing so.

It all depends upon how many signatures it gets.
Petition debates are not in the main chamber and are scheduled well in advance so it is a question of who turns up for that debate.

It hasn't been formally published yet, so no I can't, sorry. You can trust me on it or wait. I'll not be offended and I'll let you know as soon as I hear.
May be a long wait: much the same petition was put in in January...

Curiously, if you put the link into somewhere like Facebook that shows a preview, then it does show the first couple of lines so the text is at least partly available: I don't know if there is some clever means of previewing the whole thing.
