I've got a chap here (SE London) who is wanting some bookshelves.
The suggestion has been mooted that they could be made out of some kind of reclaimed timber, but of course, this is a bit off my turf, so I don't know where are the good yards around here.
Come to that, I don't know many good yards anywhere.

Any top recommendations?

Plenty of reclamation yards up North ,take a look in the Farmers Guardian,
Surely the Yellow pages would have somewhere.

That is a really boring way to find answers.

At this time of night, it does not work nearly as well as somebody who knows somewhere.

I don't know if there are any good but I quite liked the idea when I read about them. Might be worth a visit if you're passing. https://www.communitywoodrecycling.org.uk/buy.htm#ELondon

I've been looking for a source of reclaimed timber local to me for some time so I followed the links on that site. My local builder's yard sells new timber for less than they sell reclaimed timber and they deliver for free!

So check the prices before assuming that reclaimed is automatically going to be a good idea.

It wouldn't surprise me at all. They may offer stuff that's more, erm, unique that general builder's yards; or they may be charging more because some view them as trendy - I don't know.

The timber I'm hopefully going to get from a local sawmill from local wood is going to be a similar cost to DIY shed timber as well.

Hello. I made a shoe rack out of pallets, this could be adapted for books. I sanded it down and varnished it.

I got the pallets from the back doors of Plumb Centre and Wickes. They are what the radiators came on so extra long. Most of them are brand new, only used the once then chucked. Free for collection. Keep your eyes open when you are on your travels.
