does fruit wood smoked jerky seems a plausible option to that?

I'd need a firearm and appropriate training!

training might be an issue over the 6 months or so it takes to convince folk you are safe and sensible but i would give you a fac for a decent deer rifle in these circumstances
part of the training would be safe work in your orchards so even in training a harvest might be possible

they can be very destructive pests if you have trees

an alternative would be a few jars of nice jam and a "help yourself to the deer" for the local pest n game person, deer hunting is easy done while physically distancing

any trees tall enough for a high seat?

We have a man that shoots but he had to become self employed last year so has less free time. I think he's popping over next week. He's offered to train me but realistically I just don't have the time.

it does take time for every aspect, no harm in starting to learn when you can, that sort of stuff should not be rushed

if somebody can pop them now that seems ideal

you might find a role as spotter when you are wandering the estate, informing the shooter where they have been and often go is far better than one could hope for.

i called on some foxes, 4 bangs in 10 mins in the dark later no foxes

learning tracking can be part of ambling around

This is the first time I've ever had time where I can wander and take photos etc in the 15 years we've been here. Normally it's work, or work around the house, or work around the farm. Not much in the way of unallocated time.

umm ,having a bit of time to observe, be that your environment or yourself is never wasted

i "do nothing" but am usually busy with something

at the mo im busy doing nothing and trying to get a terabyte of snaps onto an external drive, and this, in a mo i will be trying to discombobulate the current regime with pointed observations in a globally public forum

for a chap who does nowt seeing the "in god we trust all others we monitor" ribbon provoked me to post about it being top trolling from NI and then in the form of "DAN says hi from Gun Wharfe"
hope it was noticed beyond a very limited demographic but it confirmed my suspicions by the rather knowledgable responses and lack of "lawyering"

that might have been first go on a bramble stalk, might not but it did seem more than a bit puzzled yesterday, it was far more confident today and had assorted playmates

i am not sure how many young ones are visiting so far, maybe half a dozen

Nice picture. It looks a bit rough around the edges at the moment, but no doubt the full adult plumage will sort itself out soon.

Muntjac are a total pain. I think the rules on shooting are less rigid than other deer, in that the season is all year, and virtually any type of rifle. If they are causing a lot of damage in the orchard, deer fencing may be an answer. We use it round our coppice, which is 'deer munchies' for both them and roe deer. Anything from well placed upside down Herras type fencing panels 6' with stakes every few panels, to proper deer fence. If you use plastic deer mesh, wire top, bottom and middle, and attach rabbit net to the bottom half bent outwards to keep things from burrowing or chewing.

Pleased to report that both the great tits and the robins around our yard now have chicks. Husband and son had to take a break in log sawing yesterday as a robin wanted to come in to feed chicks, and I saw the great tits going backwards and forwards a lot yesterday.

good light(laters)

tweed is extra busy shopping and seems to have lost weight, she was quite "ample" but now looks lean.

clarice was taking mealworms by the beakload to somewhere and has a regular chum

fat ankles has got "tame" with me but panicked when it saw tt

a few of the sparrows have been taking bits of the wheat lawn, it might be moist salad or diy materials
they were taking twigs as well so the latter seems plausible

young Ms bracket(going brown not black) is doing well and Mr brack is shopping with vigour so may have the next gen in Mrs bracks nest
Ms bracket might have been shopping which is an interesting thought

a number of youngsters about, tis a bit hard to tell how many, it seems like i might need fingers but not toes so far
less than a dozen

a bit grainy at under 2M but rather fun anyway, clarice(gender unknown)seems to be feeding something as it is shopping for mealworms, wheat grass and a few seeds

a swallow does not a summer make, i just had 3 go over so i guess it is

the sammisons are very active, possibly including a juvenile forager
