Good advice there.

More of a compromise with the price, and still gain the experience.

The prices I quoted earlier are what my BIL is currently selling fat lambs for. You won't make a penny but loose if you buy your lambs for £45.

They would be one that didn't get caught by the ram, so in effect not producing any income for the farmer. Round here they would have a red stripe (my neighbour!) and they would be off to market as useless. They can still be ok though, just not producing, and would certainly be an option

Depends how old they are I would think. Rob would know, or Gervase.

Not sure how old a ewe would be before you couldn't eat her, and in fact not sure if you can eat a ewe at all. Never had the opportunity to try.

Yes mutton if you decide to do so. But the thing is you will get the experiance then can sell them on as culls again when you have done at little or no loss. To be honest they could be worth more as mutton dep on what it will cost you to get them done.

Thanks, will see if there's any availavble. Could I run some ewes and lambs together? I think the kids'll find it much easier to get involved with some lambs about.

Yes run em together. The lambs will be weaned & not at all friendly to humans as they will have been suckled. If you want friendly get bumber/orphan lambs but lots of people have trouble eating them after.
