Does anyone know an effective way of getting rid of ground elder? I dug it all out (or thought I did), covered with black sheets of weed supressor and put gravel on the top. It's growing through the sheeting now.

I've not tried this - but they say that Tagetes Minuta (Mexican Marigold?) discourages Ground Elder (and Bindweed).

From memory, you have to do as you've started - dig out as much of the root as you can, and then sow the bed in the tagetes; it will discourage regrowth, and make it easier to get rid of?

You'd also need to watch where it's comng from - is it only in your garden? Or next door's too? I suspect you'd need to dig a trench lined and sink some sort of physical barrier - perhaps the weed suppressant material you have?

Worth a go? If you do, let us know it works out.

I'd rather not try it for myself - I'd have to go and get some ground elder, get it growing in my plot, and then get rid. Some experiments I will try - not this one!

Glyphosate it. Then wait till it dies and dig it in. When it grows back, glyphosate it again.

Failing that, remove the topsoil and seive it, and be prepared to be digging and hoeing the seedlings out for years.

If you keep takign the greenn off, it'll die eventually. Take the young tender shoots off and eat them, and keep eating them till it's dead

Sorry I can't be more positive about shifting ground elder, it's basically a complete bugger of a weed that tastes good.

You can eat it? REALLY Well you learn something new every day. Thanks for all the advice. It seems that whatever I do it's not going to go away so I think I shall just say bugger it and leave it. I've got better things to do and it's not affecting anything worthwhile. Thanks everyone.
