Well sort of. I'm tempted to get a cider press, like the one in Machine Mart, ready for this Autumn. I can get enought apples for a few gallons and could either go apple picking of befriend some more people with apple trees.

This made me think, for a 50/50 split of the apple juice do you think anyone would be interested if sharing their apples in return for juice? it would only make sence for people local to me to do this.

Also, does anyone belong to a cider co-op a bit like the blokes in River Cottage. (Mmmm, I could get the side burns in time for Autumn if I start now.)

Some places hire out presses, which seems to me to make a lot of sense, as this is somthing you are only likely to use once or twice a year.

Shame you are not closer as we have loads of apple trees, guess I will have to do something along the same lines and drink it all myself

Someone else posted about taking their apples to be pressed for a small charge - was it madman? Whoever it was, they made cider out of it.

come on, own up - who was it?

I'd be interested in how much it would cost to rent a press or to get a few gallons pressed. However, I'm sure we'd get plenty of use from one so it would a good investment for us. It's getting the apples that may be a problem at the moment.

I can see my advert now - 'have press, willing to travel'.

Try your local LETS scheme - I hired one for Stags before I was lucky enough to be given my own.

We're hoping to start a co-op this autumn. Lots of local farms have apple trees and quite a few of the chaps are going to join in. We have a small press and used to make small quantities from our aged Bramley tree at the last house with great success, so we're looking forward to autumn! We'll let you know how it goes: and before you ask, Bugs, yes, we'll probably do an article if you like!

I've got a small orchard and the apples fall on the ground most years, unused. If anyone wants them, they're free to collect. I'm in Herefordshire.

As for a press, building one is cheap and quick, if you can find an unused car jack.

Oh, I use some, but there's more than I can use. I was able to make a 9 gallon barrel of cider from the juice of less than half a tree's worth. There are about 9 or 10 trees. There's only so much cider I can drink. Probably.

I've tried, many times. And, really, there's a limit.

And yes, my liver hurts lots today. I'm spending the day wavering between feeling bilious and shaky.
